Futurepump’s work in Malawi is gaining momentum, and I am pleased to be contributing as Field Manager, supporting activities across field testing, pilot distribution, and market research. As part of my onboarding, I recently visited key partners in Lilongwe and Mzuzu, which provided valuable early insights into both product performance and market reception.
At Wala in Lilongwe (a new distributor we were on-boarding), I had the opportunity to observe the SF2 pump in operation. Seeing the pump firsthand gave me a clear understanding of its functionality and ease of use in a real-world setting. What stood out most during this visit was the strong confidence the distribution team has in the product already. In some cases, farmers had already made upfront payments even before attending live demonstrations – an encouraging sign of trust and growing demand.
From my discussions with the Wala team, the SF2 pump is positioned as a cost-effective solution within their portfolio. Its affordability, low maintenance requirements, and user-friendly design make it particularly suitable for smallholder farmers. The added value of a 10-year warranty further strengthens its appeal as a reliable, long-term investment.
My visit to Modern Farming Technologies in Mzuzu reinforced these positive impressions. I received encouraging feedback regarding farmers who have already adopted the SF2 pump, suggesting that the technology is beginning to deliver tangible value at the farm level. I was also introduced to upcoming field testing products in northern Malawi. I am particularly excited about this phase, as it will play a critical role in informing product refinement and contributing to research and development towards market-ready solutions.
Overall, my early experience with Futurepump in Malawi has been very positive. The combination of strong partner engagement, encouraging farmer feedback, and a clear focus on innovation creates a solid foundation for growth. I look forward to continuing this work and contributing to the expansion of sustainable irrigation solutions that can support farmers in improving productivity and resilience.
