How long have you been at Futurepump?
In January 2016 I started my Young Expert Program (YEP) position in the Netherlands, this was via the PRACTICA Foundation. However, it was from February that things really got started – this was when I arrived and started in Kisumu at Futurepump Kenya!
Describe a usual day:
There is almost never a usual day, but generally I am collecting information on how people are using our pump or I am investigating a specific technical problem. This can be in the field, behind my desk or in the workshop with the Kisumu technicians. I also spend quite some time in our garden testing different aspects of the pump, like how much back pressure do different sprinklers or amount of sprinklers give our pump.
What’s do you like best about working at Futurepump?
I really enjoy the vibe of the team and start-up environment! Everybody is putting in their best efforts to move the company forward. The company allows you to try different activities and methods to review what works best for us. This creates flexible and free work environment.
Favourite hobby when not working:
In the evenings I enjoy playing badminton and football with some of Kisumu’s local talents, cooking risotto or a Dutch stampot and watching the sunset while reading a book.
