Name:
Gert Jan Bom
Job title:
Technical Director (I’m sure that sounds a bit grand for what I’m actually doing!)
How long have you been at Futurepump?
since the start, 4 years now!
Describe a usual day:
I’ll be at the office at 7, deal with emails till about 9. Then I discuss current affairs and crazy ideas with whoever drops by and wants to listen! I try to get away from the office as soon as possible and get to work in the workshop on various prototypes.
I go home for lunch (5 minutes by bicycle) have lunch, discuss the morning events with my wife and then most importantly take a 10-15 minutes nap (power nap) to review the morning’s work , separate the important from the non important and set out the afternoon’s work.
After lunch I return to the office or workshop, deal with emails, work on (autocad) designs, do some engineering calculations and get back to the workshop if I can.
I go home at 6, have dinner, take another nap to review the days work, read the newspaper, do odd jobs round the house and finish the day with a drink or two and watching the telly!
What’s do you like best about working at Futurepump?
The nice team, the idea that we’re actually getting somewhere in contributing to make the world a slightly better place and of course the subject matter, water pumps!
Favourite hobby when not working:
Riding my (1967) Harley Davidson or fixing it, reading books and visiting vintage car/bike jumble sales.
