How To Decide Between The SF2 and The SF2H

POSTED ON October 27th, 2021 Amie Marie
Matthew's Futurepump SF2 solar water pump

So you have decided to invest in a solar water pump to irrigate your farm. But between the SF2 and the SF2H, which solar pump is right for you?

It depends on the needs of your farm.

Both Futurepump solar irrigation pumps are perfect for moving water uphill, whether to irrigate your farm or fill up your water storage tank. People whose land is significantly higher than their water source may find the SF2H more suitable than the SF2.

How high does your water need to move to reach your plants?

Do you have a sloping farm, or a steep river bank to get over? Is the farm uphill, or maybe you want to use your solar water pump to store water in multiple overhead tanks?

The SF2 can push water up to a maximum total head of 15 meters. This figure includes however many meters down your water source is.

Whereas the SF2H’s maximum total vertical lift is 45m (with 240W of solar). This includes however many meters down your water source is. That means the SF2H is capable of pushing water as high as Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil – which, including the pedestal, is 38m.

How much water do you need to pump?

Be aware that the further the water must be moved vertically, the weaker the water pressure will become. For this reason, the SF2H is optimised for a higher lift than a higher flow rate.

Consider your irrigation method: the SF2 can be integrated with up to 4 sprinklers due to a higher flow rate, whereas the SF2H has a maximum of 2 sprinklers.

What types of irrigation do they work with?

Both the SF2 and the SF2H are compatible with:

  • Direct irrigation using a hosepipe
  • Sprinklers (available from Futurepump)
  • Drip
  • Overhead tanks
  • 120W or 240W solar panels

Which is right for your farm?

Do you need a pressure of over 15m? Then add the SF2H kit. Optimised for such farms, the pump can be attached to sprinklers, linked up to drip irrigation systems, used with a hosepipe or for storing water in containers.

Want stronger water pressure, and not planning to lift water higher than 15m? Go for the SF2. Optimised for higher flow rate, get water to your farm quickly and irrigate with even more sprinklers, as well as still being capable of storing water in overhead tanks.
