There are 500 million one-acre farmers around the world. Rainfall has become very unpredictable due to climate change and fuel for petrol pumps is expensive.
The SF2 solar irrigation pump is both robust and portable. It offers smallholder farmers a cheaper, cleaner and more sustainable alternative to costly and polluting petrol or diesel pumps.
Irrigating crops leads to more reliable harvests and provides the opportunity to grow and sell produce out of season.
This can bring huge economic benefits to the farmers, their families and the wider community.
Access to affordable irrigation is a major limit to farm productivity. In Africa only around 5% of cultivated land is irrigated, compared to 41% in Asia.

Meet Our Team
The Futurepump team is spread between the UK, Netherlands, Kenya, and India (so we spend a lot of our time on Whatsapp).
In Kisumu, Western Kenya, we have our own field testing station for trialling new product designs, and in Rajkot, India we have created a bespoke manufacturing facility where our hardworking assembly team make the pumps from scratch, giving us complete transparency and control of quality.

Futurepump Ltd came about through a partnership of the non-profits iDE and PRACTICA Foundation. Both groups have spent many years developing and field testing solar pumps for low-income smallholder farmers. Futurepump is the commercial vehicle tasked with scaling up that work, and both iDE and PRACTICA remain closely involved in guiding the project, holding seats on the board of Futurepump Ltd.
