What if getting started with irrigation didn’t have to be a big investment?
For many smallholder farmers, moving from watering by hand to mechanised irrigation can feel like a leap. The Futurepump SJ4 is designed to make that first step easier.
An entry-level solar pump for farms of around one acre, the SJ4 brings simple, solar-powered irrigation within reach. It’s lightweight, easy to set up and built for shallow water sources. And at a price designed to be accessible, it has the potential to pay for itself in just one harvest.
The SJ4 is more than a pump. It’s a first step towards a different way of farming.
An ultra-portable pump built for everyday farming
At around 3 kg, the SJ4 is lightweight and ultra-portable. Its simple setup takes just eight steps – from unfolding the solar panel to switching on the pump.
It can deliver up to 1,800 litres of water per hour at a 1-metre head, and 1,400 litres per hour at a 10-metre head. Actual flow depends on pumping conditions, including the distance water needs to travel.
The SJ4 works with compatible hosepipes, raised tanks, low-pressure sprinklers and drip irrigation. Its three main components – the solar panel, DC motor and positive-displacement screw pump – are designed to be robust and farmer-fixable.
For smallholder farmers, that means a practical irrigation option without the ongoing cost of fuel or electricity.

Lameck introducing and explaining the pump importance in the FGD
A few essentials help keep it running well: prime the pump with clean water, never run it dry, keep the inlet and filter clear, and use only the supplied solar panel.
