In Mali, where farming is the backbone of both farming and the economy, access to reliable water sources is a common challenge. Traditional irrigation methods such as rain-fed or costly fuel-powered pumps have left farmers vulnerable to droughts, with high expenses and inconsistent yields. But there is a revolution bubbling beneath the surface.
Solar water pumps are transforming the way farmers access water, bringing hope and opportunity to rural communities. By harnessing the power of the sun, irrigation is becoming more sustainable, cost-effective and accessible.
Futurepump is driving this revolution forward in collaboration with our trusted partner, Emicom Mali. We are paving the way for a brighter, more sustainable future.
From reduced operating costs to improved crop yields, the benefits are undesirable. Thanks to research conducted by 60 decibels we are able to report on these benefits through the voices of real farmers, because after all they say it better that we ever could.
Increased Productivity
Farm productivity can be seriously impacted by irrigation. Farmers who move to irrigating from rain-fed production can see as much as double the yield from their crops. Being able to irrigate regularly and consistently (unlike the infrequent flooding of the land with a fuel pump) also brings benefits to yield – both in quantity and quality.
88% of Futurepump customers in Mali saw an increase in the productivity on their farms after making the change.
My productivity has not only doubled, but I spend next to nothing compared to the old gas pump I owned.
Increased Income
More and better quality produce equals increased income. There is more available to sell in local markets and better quality produce can fetch a higher price. Especially in the dry season where harvests are less abundant.
A huge 9% of Emicom customers saw an increase in income after using their futurepump.
My quality of life has improved because thanks to the solar water pump, I have started a parallel activity which is market gardening and it has greatly increased my income.
Decreased expenses
On a small farm, labour and/or fuel expenses can have a great impact on profitability.
On average, Futurepump customers in Mali report a saving of over $10 per week due to needing less labour for irrigation and now having no fuel costs too.
Add this saving to the increased income and the financial benefit of a futurepump solar pump is clear to see.
Since using the solar water pump, my productivity has multiplied and labour-related expenses have decreased.
Increased quality of life
Nearly two-thirds of Emicom’s customers reported significantly improved quality of life thanks to the futurepump.
Quality of life is impacted in many ways:
- reduced expenditure
- increased income
- the ability to save time on the job of irrigation
Time saved has many benefits:
- more time to expand the farm
- invest in the business
- complete of her tasks or have a well-earned rest
I’m blessed to have this product, it has made my life easier.
Increased Efficiency
Irrigation is easy now.
In comparison with lugging heavy buckets of water or dragging cumbersome petrol pump pipes, irrigating with a solar pump is easy.
Simple to set up and quick to turn on when the sun shines it takes the chore out of irrigation. What was once the biggest daily job makes way for more efficient and productive tasks.
